What to Expect From Your Wildhunde Toy

You got a new toy from Wildhunde, hooray! Firstly, we hope you and your dog absolutely love it! Secondly, let’s run through the expectations of durability and life from your toy (aka what is regular wear and tear vs unforeseen damage and faults, aka how to best care for your toy!).

Recommended Use

Most importantly, and you may have seen this elsewhere on our site and/or socials, but all our toys are recommended for “Play & Put Away” use. This is especially true of interactive toys like tugs, but essentially, we strongly advise that you use the toy in a supervised play time, and then put the tug away until next time!

Tugs with fur hides in particular, are an extremely tasty-smelling temptation for your dog! If left alone, there’s a fantastic chance they will tear it apart to consume the deliciousness. We don’t want that! (and despite our best efforts, we have yet to invent a material that is truly chew-proof).

Expected Wear & Tear

  • As we are working with materials like sheepskin and other animal hides, it’s totally normal and expected that they will shed some fur or fluff during the course of tug time. I mean, you have a dog, you experience shedding on a daily basis at this point! This is why all our fur toys are triple-layered, for extra precaution!
  • As they get chewed and drenched in doggy saliva, a lot of the hides will lose the softness that they start with. However, they can be washed safely (we recommend a gentle cycle or handwash). Once washed, run over it with a slicker brush and it’ll be like new.
  • Over the course of time, fleece tugs will become somewhat stretched. Alas, this is simply the nature of fleece fabric and unavoidable! But with the “play & put away” rule in effect, they will still last for at least 6-12 months dependent on how heavily they are being used!

Unexpected Wear & Tear aka It Should Not Have Done That

Bearing in mind that as long as all products have been subject to recommended use (bla bla bla, legal caveats etc), then the following faults are definitely cause for concern!

  • Loose or open seams
  • Missing or ripped stitches
  • Frayed webbing
  • Faulty bungee cords

If your toy has any of these issues, or you come across something not mentioned here that you’re unsure of -- please contact us at info@wildhunde.com so we can fix you up!

Bonus: Accidents Happen!

Hey, look, we get it. Sometimes despite our best efforts, things just don’t go right. Maybe you forgot to put the toy away, or maybe someone was super sneaky and managed to get it out and now the brand-new toy you got just a week ago is already destroyed. That sucks big time, and we don’t want anyone to miss out when we can help it.

If something like this happened to you, send us an email (info@wildhunde.com) with your story and we’ll see what we can do to make things right at minimal cost to you! <3
